Hospital Equipment
Supporting hospitals with materials is a core focus of MEDtiopia. For this purpose, we purchase equipment locally in cooperation with local NGOs.
We purchase materials and equipment for which we know there is a direct need – we ask the hospitals about their wishes – locally (e.g., in the capital, Addis Ababa) and have the new equipment delivered to Mersa and Dessie with local organizations such as WDIRA. This is what we did in February 2022, for example: There was no laboratory equipment at the hospital in Mersa – unimaginable for any hospital in Germany. With your donations, we purchased a clinical chemistry and blood count machine in Addis, which have since been determining the blood values of thousands of patients. Or in 2024 in Dessie: On February 16, a bone marrow biopsy was performed there for the first time, thanks to the new materials. In 2024, we were again able to equip the hospital in Mersa with some equipment and medications.
In February 2025, thanks to the support of Löwenstein, we were able to have some urgently needed intensive care equipment (such as ventilators and defibrillators) transported to Dessie. We plan to visit the clinic in April and will report on the commissioning of the new equipment then.
Image below: In February 2023, Amir checked the equipment donated in 2022 on site. He and his colleagues were able to commission the ECG – and all other donations in kind are now in use. The final trip to Dessie took place in December 2024.
